See what the fastener is doing.

Animated engineering explainers for preload, threads, galvanizing, vibration, anchors, flange tightening, corrosion, manufacturing and traceability.

01 · PRELOAD & CLAMP

Bolt preload & clamp force

Tightening stretches the bolt while compressing the clamped parts. The useful result is joint clamp force, not simply the torque value.

Concept only — torque/preload values must come from the bolting procedure and lubrication/friction condition.
02 · THREAD ENGAGEMENT

Thread engagement

Load transfers through engaged thread flanks. Diameter, pitch, nut strength and effective engagement all influence stripping resistance and load distribution.

Tolerance class and actual engaged length control the manufactured fit.
03 · HDG THREAD FIT

Hot-dip galvanizing & overtapped nuts

Zinc adds thickness to external threads. The mating galvanized nut is tapped with the specified allowance so the coated bolt can assemble without stripping away the protective zinc.

Use the governing ASTM/ISO/project thread allowance; do not “add clearance” by guesswork.
04 · HEAD MARKINGS

Read the head before assuming the grade

Metric property classes, SAE radial lines and ASTM grade marks use different identification systems. Manufacturer ID and certificates complete the traceability check.

8.8A325B7
Marking identifies a system; acceptance still requires the correct standard, dimensions and documentation.
05 · ANCHOR BEHAVIOUR

Anchor bolt load path & failure modes

An anchor transfers tension and/or shear from the base plate into concrete or supporting structure. Steel failure, concrete breakout, pull-out and edge effects are separate checks.

This animation is not anchor design. Capacity must be checked to the project’s structural design standard.
06 · VIBRATION

Why a bolted joint can loosen

Transverse movement can reduce clamp force and allow relative slip. Proper preload, joint stiffness and the specified locking strategy are more important than simply adding a lock washer.

Locking method must suit the real joint movement, temperature and service condition.
07 · FLANGE SEQUENCE

Flange tightening sequence

Cross-pattern tightening spreads gasket compression more evenly than walking around the flange in a circle. Controlled passes and lubrication are part of the bolting procedure.

12345678
Actual sequence, target load and number of passes come from the flange/bolting procedure.
08 · COATING LIFE

Sacrificial zinc coating over time

Zinc protects steel sacrificially. Atmospheric corrosivity and coating thickness strongly influence how long useful zinc protection remains.

STEEL COREZINC LAYER
Use ISO 9223 exposure and the project coating specification for planning—not a generic “years” promise.
09 · HOW A BOLT IS MADE

From bar or wire to finished fastener

Depending on diameter and product route, fasteners may be cold formed, hot forged or machined; then threaded, heat treated, finished and inspected.

RAWCUTFORMTHREAD
The exact production route depends on size, grade, geometry, quantity and approved manufacturing process.
10 · TRACEABILITY

From heat number to certificate

Heat/lot identification links the supplied fastener to material and test records. Packing, tags, inspection reports and MTC/MTR documents preserve that chain.

LOTH26-1048
Traceability is only as good as the controlled identification chain between product, batch and document.
